FAQ

What’s the difference between a traditional and retractable screen?

Unlike traditional fixed screens, retractable screens remain out of sight until you need them. They retract into a discreet housing when not in use - preserving your views as well as your home’s décor.

Our retractable doors can be used on Single French Doors, Double French Doors, In-Swing or Out-Swing Doors, Patio Doors, Sliding Doors and Entry or Carport Doors in openings up to 8’ x 8’.

I need to put a retractable screen on my Sliding Door, can Retractable Screen Doors by Blind Ideas be used for my Sliding Door?

Yes! Retractable Screen Doors by Blind Ideas can be used for Sliding Doors. By having a retractable screen on your Sliding Door you can retract the screen away when not in use and enjoy those views unobstructed.

How do the screen doors stay closed?

Our Retractable Screen Doors by Blind Ideas have full-length magnetic strips that create a tight seal to keep the doors closed. For Double/ French Door screens, one door stays in place allowing the homeowner to go in and out the other door without having to open and close both doors every time.

What are Retractable Screen Doors by Blind Ideas Screens made of?

We use powder coated aluminum for all the frame parts that make up the screen door. This includes the housing for the screen mesh as well as the top track, bottom track and side profile. We choose aluminum for our screen doors because it is structurally the strongest material we can use for this application. We also spray our aluminum with a powder coating because it is the highest quality finish for indoor/outdoor use and will not rust.

What kind of screen mesh is used for the screen door?

Phifer’s trademarked fiberglass screening has been the standard in the industry for decades. The screen is woven from permanent glass yarn, which has been coated with a protective vinyl to ensure lasting beauty, color and flexibility and will not rust, corrode or stain. It is produced under the most exacting conditions to meet rigid specifications and has passed 1200 hours of QUV accelerated weathering.

Will I be able to see through the screens?

The great thing about our retractable screens is that they disappear when you don't need them - meaning you can enjoy your view all year round. Our screen's mesh allows you to see through the screen, has great ventilation yet still keeps the bugs out.

How will the doors look on my house?

Retractable Screen Doors by Blind Ideas are designed to be discreet and match with your home's décor. With six colors to choose from, it is easy to find a door that will complement your décor. Custom colors are available upon request. Please visit our photo gallery!

Is this a good door for a home that has pets?

Yes!

We chose to offer this retractable screen door with pets specifically in mind. The unique break-away feature of our doors mean that if a pet (or human) bumps into the door, the magnet will release allowing the door to retract into its protective housing. This alleviates common damage issues like the screen tearing from its seal or the frame bending. Because our screen was designed to “give” at the bottom when bumped, its self-healing feature means you simply retract the door then close it again for a tight seal. In addition, our product features Phifer’s Pet Resistant trademarked fiberglass screen that has been the standard in the industry for decades.

Will my pets be able to get through my screen door?

Retractable Screen Doors by Blind Ideas are designed to “give” a small amount if pets were to bump into them. Pets may first be confused after the screens are installed and we recommend pet owners make sure to familiarize their pets with the screens. Our screens are designed to prevent insects from getting inside and to provide great ventilation for your home, condo, apartment or business. Our retractable screens should not be utilized as a pet retention system.

What happens if someone walks into my screen?

The mesh on our doors is designed to provide a small amount of “give” if someone were to walk into the screen door. If an individual was to fall or run through the screen by accident, the screen may be pulled from its housing in which case we recommend that you call us at 602-595-8930 to have one of our certified technicians come and service the door and/ or replace the screen mesh.

Can the screens be repaired?

Yes they can. Although they are very durable, accidents do occasionally happen. The mesh can be replaced and most of the parts can be repaired or replaced.

Will the retractable screen door rust?

The aluminum frame and magnetic strip and screen are rust proof.

Are there any maintenance requirements for Retractable Screen Doors by Blind Ideas?

Caring for your Retractable Screen Door by Blind Ideas is very easy!
To open or close your retractable screen door, gently hold the door handle as you draw open or close. Do not let go of the door while retracting to avoid it slamming while opening.
We recommend keeping your screen retracted in its protective housing when not in use. This will protect it from dirt, inclement weather and sun.
Periodically vacuum or gently brush out the top and bottom tracks to rid them of any dust/debris that has accumulated.
After cleaning, spray a small amount of lemon furniture polish (like Pledge) to lubricate the tracks and soften the pile to keep your door gliding smoothly.
Do not use wax based or silicone based chemicals on your door (like WD-40). They will cause dust to ball up instead of dispersing and loosening it.

Do the retractable screen doors require a track at the bottom?

Yes they do, but they are subtle. Our professional installers are also experienced in fine trim carpentry and can help you find the best option for installing a retractable screen door.

How long does it take to install your retractable screen door?

We maintain our inventory in our warehouse and because we custom cut and measure on site, you can have your door installed the same day of your consultation. Of course, it depends on how many doors you install, but we can install a single door in about an hour.

Can I take the screens with me when I move?

The screens are designed to blend in with your décor and become part of your home. The warranty covers the screens to the original purchaser for the lifetime of the home, so removing them would negate your warranty.
